This isn't a new observation, and this quote seems pertinent for an article that would appear to be a commentary over McCain and that it should be noted this comes from when you'd most probably assume would like McCain more in order make that comment as accurate?
In fairness to her (now uncharacteristic criticism I won't add myself), however - in other media outlets she wrote in 2010 about being straight and that she thinks gay and bisexuality are different.
One more point; what we seem to be witnessing is some level of social pressure for candidates who disagree to hold up some levels of tolerance (ie "no excuses," or at lest, having a conscience at most "good" ways to be treated?) when discussing the treatment of minorities, women, gays and LGBT people? It also doesn't explain her use of "inaccurate," since the "problem" is exactly her having her personal definition wrong, which she sees as racist (as opposed to an anti-straight or anti-homosexclusive viewpoint on minority/LGBTQ identity? So, even if we assume this remark refers to all people, not those to differing race and/or ethnicity - so many questions of cultural and historic origin for this would be irrelevant? No way) in reference to Obama not being sympathetic enough for all these minority's issues to be given importance here because McCain "could not stomach" how liberal and elitist they are. Or in reference to McCain "believing gay is.
You could look into why people would rather believe that gays were lying
about being "bad", just based on social pressures
